Paul Johannsson – Founder and President

Mr. Johannsson has over 17 years of progressive industry and management experience with concentrations in GSE, legal, and mortgage servicing. He has previously held leadership roles with Freddie Mac, McCarthy and Holthus, PHH Mortgage, and BSI Financial Services. Paul and his teams throughout his career have managed hundreds of thousands of defaulted mortgages’ legal processes. Johannsson is also a partner in a construction and commercial cleaning firm, real estate broker/investor, note buyer, and private money lender. He started a solo consulting firm, O.L.A.F., in 2017. The firm is now an umbrella of companies that specializes in asset management and pool purchase diligence, law firm back-office consulting and strategizing, and servicer support and on-site staffing. Paul, in his spare time, is a total geology nerd and enjoys winetasting. His husband and him, when not working on their new business endeavors including a wellness center and specialty wine/beer speakeasy, can be spotted with their two dogs out on the lakes of the Carolinas.

Tamika Davis, Merritt Webb Wilson and Caruso – General Counsel

Ms. Davis began her legal career in 2001 as an intern with the law firm of Nick Galifianakis & Associates. She was employed by Country Wide Home Loans from 2002-2004. Thereafter, she joined the law firm of Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge, & Rice, PLLC. Ms. Davis became an associate attorney for Merritt, Webb, Wilson & Caruso, PLLC in 2006 and focuses on finance, contracts, family law, and personal injury. While pursuing her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, Ms. Davis appeared on the Dean’s List and received annual recognition for outstanding Grade Point Average, was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity and served as a minority advisor for the university. While at North Carolina Central University School of Law, Ms. Davis served as the Vice President of the Women’s Caucus.

Matt Watson

Director of Asset Management and Law Firm Services

Mr. Watson is coming from BSI Financial Services where he played a very important role as their Foreclosure Manager over Business Purpose/Non-Agency loans. With extensive work history in the different sectors of mortgage and default spaces (law firm, mortgage servicing, and consulting), he brings to the OLAF team a very unique and critical set of skills acquired over the years. Most recently (and importantly), Matt was in charge of creating and fine-tuning a number of processes to help set BSI Financial Services as a leader in the servicing industry over business purpose loans and commercial foreclosures. Matt credits his effective communication, consistent attention to detail, and transitional leadership style to his prior military service (United States Marine Corps). In his off time, you’ll find him sailing the waters of Southern California on his boat with his wife and two kids.

Michael Messick

Director of Strategic Operations

Mr. Messick has over a decade of experience in the mortgage servicing arena.  He joined OLAF from Shellpoint Mortgage Servicing Corporation (SMS) where he served as the Attorney Network Manager.  Prior to SMS, he spent time at RoundPoint Mortgage Servicing Corporation (RPMS) in various Default management positions.  From management of Operations, Quality Assurance (QA), FC/BK Timeline Oversight, Project Management, and Attorney Network, he brings a special perspective to our team.  Additionally, Michael holds a Juris Doctoral (JD) degree from completing law school prior to his start in default, which provides an even more important view and grasp of legal issues at hand.  In his down time, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and twins on the lake or a golf course.

Patricia Palmer

Bankruptcy Manager – Servicer On-Site Resource Supervisor

Ms. Palmer is our resident bankruptcy guru. She has servicer, legal, and mortgage company experience spanning a 30 year period. Patricia has worked for McMichael Taylor Gray as their firmwide Bankruptcy Manager. Before that, Patricia held various leadership roles with Brock and Scott, Law Offices of Les Zieve, AMC Mortgage/CITI Residential, Malcolm Cisneros, and The Wolf Firm. We are lucky to have her veteran and diversified expertise on our team. When she is not numbers crunching and bankruptcy analyzing, she enjoys spending time with her family in Charlotte.

Aimee Monteith

Supervisor of Asset Management and Law Firm Services

Mrs. Monteith has been involved in the Mortgage Servicing World for 20 plus years, specializing in default matters.
She has been involved in leadership roles in late stage default from loss mitigation to foreclosure, bankruptcies, and REOs. Aimee is extremely knowledgeable about default servicing with every type of investor. Most recently, she was employed as a Business Purpose Loan Foreclosure Supervisor with a special servicer and inherited a wealth of information in the ways of commercial foreclosures. It was because of this experience that Aimee craves to work in this specific area of default servicing. Aimee hopes to shatter the industry glass ceiling in innovative new product offerings that support the non-QM space and law firms’ back offices. She is a Native San Diegan and has a wonderful husband of 20 years. Aimee is also a proud mother to a son that is heading to college in Northern California to finish his degree.

Louis Gerrick

Supervisor of Law Firm Services – Invoicing, On-Site Resource Management, and Accounts/Receivable Surveillance

Mr. Gerrick has a background in both the accounting and the default legal spaces from the mortgage servicing, consulting, law firm, and investigative perspectives. In a recent project he has overseen a team of 9 direct reports for a default mortgage servicer, acting as a servicing oversight liaison to an investor with a $1 billion+ asset portfolio. His area was responsible for ~$18,000,000 per year legal fee/expense budget. Additionally, he and his team oversaw an attorney network of 105 law firms nationwide. He has acted as a consultant for a firm that specializes in management of law firm billing, as well as worked directly in a law firm supervising an 8-person team of A/R and collections specialists. Louis has a B.S. in Business Administration with a focus on Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management from Shepherd University. He stands 6’7″ and is a nerd when it comes to numbers. He loves to spend time with his family, and he always does his best to squeeze in a poker tournament over the weekend when he can.

Monica Gutierrez

Supervisor of Law Firm Billing Operations – Invoicing, Special Projects, and Accounts/Receivable Surveillance

Ms. Gutierrez has a background in both the accounting and the default legal spaces from management of 2 large law firms’ accounting departments. In her experience she has overseen a 32 state law firm’s accounting group, including every stage of billing to collections. Monica oversaw compliance with investor and servicer guidelines and kept offices connected via her expert leadership approach to bridging gaps and creating synergies. She loves to spend time where she lives, in Miami, with her three beautiful children. Her daughter graduated from FIU and is working on her masters at the University of Miami. Monica’s son is a Paramedic employed with the fire department while attending school for Nursing, and her little one starting his freshman year of high school.

Sarah Allen

Lead Billing Analyst – Law Firm Services

Mrs. Allen has extensive background in law firm billing administration. She is a numbers ninja and also knows how to collect to reduce law firms’ receivables timeline. She is familiar with Black Knight systems as well as Sagent and other servicing platforms. Sarah’s passion is to bill right and collect quick. She knows LSAs like the back of her hand. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys time with her kids and likes to geek out on Harry Potter.

Cheryl Hynum

Lead Bankruptcy Analyst – Servicer On-Site Support Liaison

Ms. Hynum comes to OLAF with over 20 years of experience, most recently with a US Bankruptcy Trustee. With her expansive and diversified servicing, legal, and leadership background, she now supports our servicer, mortgageholder, law firm relationship management. She spends her days toiling away in the bankruptcy space on a servicer portfolio. Cheryl is part of our new approach to industry relationships. Instead of waterfall, we look at things cylindrically. She has been an intricate part of this new partnership structure, and is a helping hand always with servicer, law firm, and mortgageholder. In Cheryl’s spare time, she enjoys relaxing in the Greenville, SC area and people-watching with her background in psychology.

Kavita Sahay

Lead Billing Analyst – Law Firm Services

Ms. Sahay came to us with a myriad of administrative supportive skills. She has evolved into a client liaison, numbers ninja, and vendor payables support to one of OLAF’s largest clients. She works on-site at one of our clients, and is a mathematician. She knows servicing and legal systems, and is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to watching out for our clients’ pockets. In her spare time, Kavita enjoys plants and has a fierce passion for botany. She also has education in IT web applications in addition to her other diversified professional and personal hobbies and skills.

Syndey Boswell

Senior Consultant – REO Asset Management

Ms. Boswell is a seasoned asset manager responsible for 900+ REO properties at any given time. Specializing in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut Tri-State area she is well versed in the full life cycle of distressed and subprime mortgage backed assets. Her day to day activities range from hands on management of property rehabilitation, overseeing and communicating with field agents, and presenting company results to trusted investors. She graduated from Gettysburg College with a BA in management. In the fast paced world of REO asset management, Sydney is a trusted resource to get the job done right. An avid swimmer and adventurer, Sydney enjoys to exercise and travel when she can.

Christopher Pendergrass

Senior Consultant/Paralegal – Bankruptcy, Mortgage Servicing Oversight, Title

Mr. Pendergrass, owner of Pender-Paralegal Services, LLC, is a certified paralegal, certified by the National Association of Legal Assistants since 2009. He is also a licensed title insurance producer independent contractor for the State of Maryland and District of Columbia. He began his paralegal career working for a mortgage default law firm in 2007. In 2012, he completed his undergraduate studies, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Legal Studies at Strayer University. He has since gained experience as a bankruptcy specialist and real estate paralegal, assisting mortgage loan servicers and title companies with the preservation and title clearance of their assets. Christopher is devoted to the legal profession and values building long-term, productive relationships with attorneys, title agencies, mortgage servicers, and their clients. Chris thoroughly enjoys reviewing bankruptcy dockets, when not working on the expansion of his business.

Ashley Duncan

Senior Consultant – Digital Marketing, Communications, and Social Media Management

Ms. Duncan has a strong background in communications, marketing, and social media management. Ms. Duncan works with the Office of Investment and Innovation at SBA as an Outreach and Communication Specialist. Previously, Ms. Duncan worked as an analyst for Manatt, Phelps, & Phillips, LLC, where she developed an expertise in research and business development. Ashley brings several years of marketing and communication skills through previous senior marketing roles with iHeart Media, Zipcar, Macy’s, and Fluent, LLC. Ms. Duncan received her B.A in Strategic Communications with a minor in Social Work from Seattle University. When not obsessing over social media and crafting expert communications Ashley is planning to begin her Masters of Public Administration online from the University of Southern California next fall.

Philip Jordan

Senior Consultant – Capital Markets, Mortgage Servicing Oversight, REO, Mortgage Investments, Pool Acquisition

Mr. Jordan has over 5 years’ experience as a financial analyst, working diligently for 4 of those years on a Capital Markets team evaluating and modeling close to 500 loan pools valued at nearly $150 Billion. In addition to loan analysis, Phil reviews loss mitigation proposals and provides strategic dispositions in determining most profitable returns from listing and selling properties in short time frames, determining repair budgets and deadlines, reducing and negotiating holding costs including attorney fees, HOA, property preservation, liens/judgments, and taxes. Phil has a B.S.B.A in International Business and Finance from Suffolk University in Boston, MA. Phil, aside from crunching numbers in Excel, spends his time volunteering installing solar panels around the D.C. and Maryland area as well as training for triathlons.

Emily Craig

Senior Consultant – Corporate, Government, and Boutique Recruiting Solutions

Ms. Craig is a native D.C. Metro Area recruiter with expertise filling a variety of roles from entry level through executive level positions utilizing exceptional talent sourcing skills, interview scheduling, tracking system management, and dynamic negotiation tactics. Her placement experience spans many fields including accounting, finance, executive administration, human resources, and operational management, process transformation, information technology, and data science. Ms. Craig has held senior recruiting positions with Grant Thornton, HireStrategy, Aver, RGS, and Merito Group. She has proven success with both public and private clients on both national and local scales in small business, government, and corporate environments. When Emily is not getting to know your next top talent she is scaling a mountain with her dog, Oliver, or enjoying a craft beer while dreaming of moving to warmer climates.
